In the wake of the murder of George Floyd, Brave began working for change in our community.

Anthony King has always had a passion for people, justice, & love—whether it involved standing up for his friends who were picked on, advocating for more inclusive music to be performed in various choirs, or participating in student government. Speaking truth to power has always been a quality that has come natural to Anthony. However, it wasn’t until after the murder of George Floyd that he truly answered the call of activism and community organizing. Shortly after the horrific murder, he organized a sizable protest which provided Black people in the Bowling Green community a platform to express their palpable pain and righteous rage at a system that was not deeply damaged but operating exactly as it was designed to. During the protest, he heard his community share about not being adequately represented, properly cared for, and feeling targeted by law enforcement. This inspired him to create BRAVE—Black, Rights, Activism, Visibility, & Equity. BRAVE is a non-profit organization that advocates, supports, and uplifts the Black community in predominantly white communities like Bowling Green. Our goal is for Black people to eventually venture to any corner of America and feel represented, protected, valued, and welcomed.
